frequently Asked Questions

Before Study Enrollment

Please click here to contact us or call us toll free at 1-855-824-2676. Let the study team  know if there is a particular clinical research study you are  interested in discussing.

When you contact us, our research coordinator will conduct a brief phone screen and determine your eligibility for our current research studies. This will help us understand your needs and match you with the studies that are best suited to your interests. You will also have the opportunity to ask any questions you may have.

Upon completion of the phone screening, the research coordinator will either refer you to one of our specific study teams or inform you that you currently do not meet eligibility for any of our current studies.

No. You are never under any obligation or requirement to enroll in a study. Contacting MTBI2 is completely separate from study enrollment. Before you agree to participate in a particular study, a staff member from the research team must first:

  • Explain the study to you
  • Share the study’s risks and benefits
  • Note your rights as a research participant
  • Answer any questions you might have

In general, our studies are open to persons who are 18 years of age and older. However, each of our studies has specific eligibility criteria that must be met in order to participate. For example, one of our studies might require participants to have experienced at least one (1) of traumatic brain injury.

MTBI2‘s clinical research studies take place at military treatment facilities and civilian medical centers throughout the U.S. Some clinical research studies may require you to  reside within a specific geographic location. Other studies can accommodate participants throughout the country. Please contact our research coordinator for more information.

Our TBI Research Opportunities and Outreach for Participation in Studies (TROOPS)  program will keep you updated about the latest and greatest research as well as opportunities that may be the best fit for you. Our team will help match preferences, needs, and types of studies you want to participate in so that we can connect research participants with opportunities that meet their needs.

Family members, friends, and, caregivers alike can be in the best position to recognize the symptoms of TBI/concussion and post-traumatic stress (PTS)  before anyone else. If you are a family member or friend of someone experiencing signs or symptoms of TBI or PTS, contact us.

DURING STUDY ENROLLMENT

Each study has a different purpose. A staff member within the particular study’s team will explain the study and its specific aims in detail to you before you make a decision.

The time commitment for each study varies from one (1) day to several years. Our research coordinator will inform you about a study’s time commitment during your initial interaction.

Each of our studies will have different risks. A staff member within the particular study’s team will explain the study’s risks to you in detail and answer any questions you might have.

As a research participant, you have  rights. First and foremost, you have the right to make an informed decision about taking part in a study. Before you enroll in a study, a staff member from the particular study must first:

  • Explain the study to you
  • Share the study’s risks and benefits
  • Note your rights as a research participant
  • Answer any questions you might have

Most importantly, if you decide to enroll in a research study you may change your mind and withdraw from the study at any time and for any reason. You are never under any obligation to participate or to continue your participation in a research study.

Benefits and compensation for participation vary depending on the particular study. This information will be discussed with you by a staff member within the study team. We thank you for your consideration in giving back to the scientific community!
